Good poetry, like good art
Touches on the sublime, and by
That I guess I mean that
Subconscious strata of human
Thought and emotion that ties us
Together … that stream below
The surface of our lives that is our lives.

A good poem or song or work of art
Brings forward that substrata
And presents it in a provocative
And engaging way such that it stirs
The observer / listener … or stills them;
In any case brings or conveys them
To that place which is within them
Yet beyond where they were
Before they saw or heard it.

That is the power of our art;
It’s intention and it’s goodness.
